Kioni

Kioni lies south of a tongue of land in Ormos Kioni Bay in Ithaca. The harbour is lined by the white houses of the town and quickly gives the impression that Kioni has more houses than inhabitants. In fact, the population has decreased dramatically in the last few years. Yachts moor at the quay bow-to or stern-to at a water depth of 2.5 to 10 m. The steeply sloped seabed means it makes sense to use a long chain. Alternatively, boats can anchor in the bay or inside the harbour. As the seabed is very unsafe in some places and there is hardly any space available for swinging at anchor, boats should also be secured with shore lines. Expect strong downbursts from the prevailing winds. Southerly winds (usually not in the summer) can cause waves and mooring or anchoring in the harbour area then becomes dangerous. There are a variety of taverns and shopping amenities in the village.
